Rock Hill
Rock Hill earned its name in the early 1850’s when the Charlotte Railroad line came through the small town and a flint hill was in their path. A U.S. Post Office was established and the city was born! Winthrop University helped put the small town on the map. Although Winthrop has changed dramatically since it moved to Rock Hill in 1895, growing from a single classroom to a comprehensive university for education.
The quaint yet booming city of Rock Hill has been home to some of the greatest football players the NFL has brought to their stage, hence the nickname “Football City USA”. When the Carolina Panthers chose Rock Hill for their new stadium, things started changing quickly. The downtown area has been revitalized by small businesses and the city has an electric bus that allows the residents of the area to ride around town for free. There are also bikes available for free for the first 2 hours you can ride around the streets and enjoy the culture Rock Hill has to offer.
If you are around the downtown area of Rock Hill on a Friday night in the summer, you may find yourself among the Food Trucks surrounding Fountain Park and people laughing and sharing stories. The city has an annual Christmasville celebration that transforms the area into a winter wonderland. In the spring you will notice the annual festival Come-See-Me which has been held since 1962 as a 10 day long festival to welcome spring to our town. If you see Glen the frog and his wife Glenda around, give them a wave!
From the World Championships being held at the BMX tracks in Riverwalk and the Velodrome next door, to Knowledge Park and the revitalization of the city and its history, to a newly developed park for people of all ages and abilities to come to play and work dubbed Miracle Park, Rock Hill really is a home for everyone. Pop into one of our local breweries like Slow Play Brewing or Legal Remedy Brewing. Check out one of the new restaurants on Main Street like Kounter or Aye Papi. Take a stroll and enjoy one of the many murals painted on the streets and on the buildings showcasing the talent from the local artists.
Regardless of the reason life brought you to Rock Hill, we can promise you will find something in this city that will make it feel like home.
